As a consultant surgeon at Phoenix Health, Miss Darrien plays a vital role in delivering bariatric surgery to patients across the UK. We are proud to be one of the UK’s leading independent providers of both NHS-funded and private bariatric surgery services. For over five years, she has worked exclusively with us as a consultant, offering both primary and revisional bariatric surgery and supporting patients through every stage of their weight loss journey.
Her skillset also extends to endoscopic weight loss procedures such as overstitch and intragastric balloon placements, and she supports non-surgical options, including the use of weight-loss injections (SemaPen).
With extensive training from the University of Glasgow (MBChB, MSc) and a postgraduate Master’s in Surgery (ChM) from the University of Edinburgh, Miss Darrien went on to complete an elite Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery in London and Northumbria. Her surgical training took place in some of the most respected hospitals in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, and Northumbria. She has held substantive consultant posts across both Scotland and England, and remains passionate about serving rural and remote communities, particularly in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
Through her work at Phoenix Health, Miss Darrien contributes directly to our NHS bariatric surgery contracts across multiple Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) in the North West of England. She also offers rapid-access private care for conditions such as gallstones, acid reflux, abdominal wall and groin hernias, and other general surgical concerns. Patients benefit from timely access to essential investigations, including CT, MRI, upper GI endoscopy, pH, and manometry studies, all with minimal wait times.
NHS England patients awaiting gallbladder or hernia surgery can also be referred to Miss Darrien at Grosvenor Nuffield Hospital, Chester, via the electronic Referral System (eRS), offering timely access to consultant-led care.
